We got to Thanksgiving and about 15 minutes later it all came crashing down...
Colin just learned to walk the week before his 1st birthday and was showing off his skills to all of the family. Well, I guess the oven and rolls proved too much of a temptation because before I could even decipher what he was doing, he ran right to the OPEN oven door and put his two sweet little hands down on the 350 degree oven door. He immediately snatched them back, but not before that heat did some MAJOR damage!! Colin screamed for at least 3 hours and finally after being pushed in the stroller up and down the street for what must have been miles, he finally calmed down enough (and all the pain relievers kicked in just enough) to let him fall into a bit of a sleep. When he woke up from the nap, he seemed to be much more comfortable unless you came near his hand and then he would whimper/cry pitifully. It was traumatic to say THE LEAST!!!
We had to take him to the Augusta Burn Center at the recommendation of our pediatrician, Dr. Joey, who just happens to live across the street. We got him to take a look at it on Thanksgiving night and we had an appointment Saturday morning to go in first thing and find out if Colin would need a skin graft.
Thank goodness, he did NOT. We still had to go back 2 more times though for them to check the bandages and to check in on the recovery. It was awful, but this could have been SO MUCH WORSE! Let's just say that Colin has a healthy appreciation for the oven and heat in general after this.
